Testing the fundamentals of quantum theory
Priv.-Doz. Dr. Matthias Kleinmann
Department Physik, Theoretische Quantenoptik, Universität Siegen
Quantum theory is the basis of most of modern physics and has withstood countless precision tests over the last century. However, is the theory really thoroughly tested? For instance, there is only little experimental data concerning the validity of quantum theory for macroscopic systems and in regimes where gravity is the dominant interaction. Even fundamental concepts like the rule for system composition and the projection postulate have surprising open ends. In this talk, I will review the status of quantum theory and the progress in testing its fundamentals. I will highlight recent experimental tests and provide an outlook on theoretical developments that can give rise to novel experimental precision tests of quantum theory.
