With ultra-short high-power laser pulses, we generate plasmas on the micrometer scale that are several million Kelvin hot. We examine the physical processes occuring and their technical usability, e.g. the generation of coherent X-rays.
Our research focuses on intense laser interactions with fundamental quantum systems as well as correlated electron dynamics in atoms. The picture shows a "fingerprint" of the quantum vacuum through its materialization into electron-positron pairs.
As part of JuSPARC, we develop innovative accelerator concepts. The focus is on the generation and use of ultra-short electron pulses at the highest laser repetition rates and the acceleration of polarized particle beams.
